Hospitality properties in the low desert run cooling loads most of the year, and guest comfort is not negotiable. Electricity is a structural operating cost, not a line item you can trim by turning things off.
Borrego Springs adds two complications. First, the heat itself: sustained extreme temperatures stress panels, inverters, and wiring, and undermine systems that were designed for milder climates. Second, the location: this is a remote community, which puts a premium on a system that is built to run reliably without a service truck nearby.
The goal for this project was simple to state and demanding to execute: offset 100% of the property's utility usage with a system engineered to survive the desert for the long haul.

Putting the array on the ground kept the resort's roofs untouched and gave the design team full control over orientation and layout. It also makes every component accessible for inspection and service, which matters more, not less, at a remote site.
Desert irradiance is exceptional, but high temperatures reduce panel output and stress electrical components. The system was engineered specifically for extreme desert heat, using Tier-1 equipment backed by 25-year manufacturer warranties, so production holds up in August, not just on the spec sheet.
Keen's in-house C-10 electrical crews, state-certified Journeymen and Apprentices, handled the electrical work rather than subcontracting it out. Electricians first, solar second. That is the same discipline behind our full electrical services and EPC delivery model.
