Upgrade the System, Don't Throw Away the Old One
Plenty of San Diego homes went solar ten-plus years ago. The panels still produce, but the original string inverter is near the end of its life, there is no battery, and the system is too small for an EV or a heat pump.
Ripping it all out wastes good panels. The smarter move is to add capacity, put a modern hybrid inverter and battery at the center, and bring the old modules along.
Scope Delivered
Eleven New Modules
All-black 430W modules across three roof planes on Unirac rail with FlashLoc attachments sealed into the shingle roof.
Legacy Array Rewired
The eight existing modules were re-strung into the new Powerwall 3 and the old inverter was removed, so the whole system reports through one inverter.
Battery + Backup
Tesla Powerwall 3 and Backup Switch, rapid shutdown devices on the roof, and a new AC disconnect at the meter.
How We Built It Right
Conduit painted to match
Exterior conduit and equipment were painted to match the house, and the rooftop run was routed around an existing satellite dish rather than through the middle of the roof.
One inverter, one view of the system
Re-stringing the legacy panels into the Powerwall 3 means the homeowner sees the old and new arrays as one system, and there is one fewer aging inverter waiting to fail.
